The Washington Experience


During the summer, participating students receive the opportunity to take part in a number of events that are organized by the director. These include social events, receptions, and meetings with policy experts, elected officials, and other political leaders.  Students are not required to attend any of these events, but are encouraged to do so. Furthermore, extra credit is typically awarded to students who attend these events.

-A meeting with Senator Roland Burris (D-IL)

-A meeting with Congressman Artur Davis (D-AL)

-A meeting with Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL)

-A meeting with Congressman Shelley Berkley (D-NV)

-A meeting with Congressman Michele Bachmann (R-MN)

-A meeting with Congressman Mike Rogers (R-AL)

-A meeting with former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)

-A luncheon with Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist

-A luncheon with bestselling author Richard Miniter

-An outing to a Washington Nationals baseball game

-A Capitol Hill Welcome Reception sponsored by Career Services and the University of Alabama Alumni Association

-A forum entitled “Living and Working in Washington, DC” sponsored by the Blackburn Institute

-A series of informal pizza dinners so students can get to know their classmates who are spending the summer interning in Washington, DC
